The house of Berit and Arne in Skotselv

Our first Great Pyrenean came from Kennel Idavangen in 1984. His name was Robban (N Ch Idavangen’s Robert Dudley) and was from their first litter. Before that we had a Keeshond, but we wanted a larger breed. At the time I was 8 years old, so it was my mother and father that found out what kind of breed they might like. All I can remember is meeting Marit and Bente Nordahl at a large dog show, and me spending most of the time on the floor petting these large gentle white dogs. That day we went home wit an agreement of coming to visit Marit and Bente and I got a brand new sweatshirt with a PYR on it!

Later we got a second PYR, a bitch this time. She was meant for me to show, her name was Idavangen’s Rosalinde. Sadly, she was of the very hungry kind, so she tended to be too fat for showing, but she got a couple of CC’s. Since then there always has bean at least two PYRs in our home.

Then in 1996 when I and my fiancé bought our flat, the first thing on my mind was buying ME a PYR! I don’t think Hans Erik ever got the chance to protest… Gunda as we call her (N Ch Beachbear’s Digitalis Purpurea) came to us the autumn off 1997. She was given to me, in return the breeders wanted to have a litter on her. (Kennel Beachbear’s G-litter)

Gunda
We had no thoughts about breeding ourselves, but after Gunda’s litter at kennel Beachbear (witch our N S Ch Beachbear’s Gran Ganador and N Ch Beachbear’s Golosina came from), Mette and Gunnar tried to convince us of having puppies ourselves. In the end we found out it was time to put all the information, experience and knowledge we had gathered through the 18 years with PYRs, in the puppy pen of our breeders and in the show ring into action, and decided to have our first litter. A big thank you to Mette and Gunnar for giving us the most perfect bitch to build our breeding on, and to give us all the support and help in finding the right stud dog and guide us through the process!
Gunda has proven her self as a superb mother, giving us some very nice offspring to built our breeding on. She also has proven her self as a real TV star, playing the part of Chinook in the children’s series “The snow children”. Her daughter Kelly (N Ch Beachbear’s Golosina) also had a try in front of the cameras in a TV advert for Pampers diapers!

Today we have 13 PYRs, Gunda is the oldest, now 10,5 years old, Monty and Serra (imports from France) the youngest at 9 months old.

Our goal with our breeding is keeping it small (normally 1 littera year), in a home environment. Do what we can to give the puppies a good home and to guide the new owners through the life of their PYR. Make sensible decisions on good combinations, this takes time and planning years in advance.  Do what we can to breed mentally and physically healthy dogs, as close to the standard as possible. We hope to contribute with something good to the breed with our work, also through our close cooperation with breeders both in Norway and the rest of Europe!

The puppy pen, but now it's connected to the rest, but can be shut off to hoist puppies or visiting dogs.
In all we now have over 8000 m2 of fenced areas for the dogs to be in during the day. They all come into the house with us at night.
